Get ready for a heavy dose of metal, because ASINHELL, the death metal project led by VOLBEAT's Michael Poulsen, is back and cooking up some serious riffs!
The Return of Death Metal Fire
ASINHELL, featuring the iconic Poulsen on guitar, has announced plans to record their second album, a highly anticipated follow-up to their 2023 debut, "Impii Hora." But here's where it gets controversial... Poulsen, a rock 'n' roll legend with VOLBEAT, has reignited his passion for death metal, a genre he explored with his first band, DOMINUS, back in the '90s.
The Genesis of ASINHELL
When Poulsen was crafting songs for VOLBEAT's "Servant of the Mind" album, he couldn't resist writing some death metal riffs. These riffs, saved on his phone, became the foundation for ASINHELL. Poulsen teamed up with his longtime friend and neighbor, Morten Toft Hansen, and together they resurrected the raw, brutal sound of death metal in Morten's garage, just like old times.
The Perfect Trio
To complete the ASINHELL lineup, Poulsen turned to his good friend and death metal legend, Marc Grewe, known for his work with INSIDIOUS DISEASE and MORGOTH. Grewe, initially skeptical due to Poulsen's busy VOLBEAT schedule, was quickly on board when Poulsen made the call.
With the band fully formed, they collaborated with VOLBEAT producer Jacob Hansen, who not only produced and mixed their debut album but also contributed bass. For lead guitar, Poulsen called on his VOLBEAT touring buddy and THE ARCANE ORDER guitarist, Flemming C. Lund.
Live and Loud
ASINHELL made its live debut in May 2024, and the energy was electric. The band's first live incarnation featured the same lineup as "Impii Hora," with Hansen on bass and Lund on lead guitar.
What's Next?
ASINHELL is currently working on new material, and according to Grewe, they plan to record their sophomore album next year.
So, metalheads, are you excited for more ASINHELL? Do you think this project will continue to thrive, or is it just a side venture for Poulsen? Let's discuss in the comments!
