Bukayo Saka: Arsenal's Response to a Rare Defeat | Premier League 2026 (2026)

Saka: "Now it’s our time to demonstrate our true character" | Exclusive Interview | News

In a surprising turn of events, our impressive streak of unbeaten home matches came to a halt last Sunday when we faced Manchester United, suffering a narrow defeat in a match that ended 3-2.

We initially took the lead after an electrifying first thirty minutes and even managed to equalize late in the game. However, our hopes were dashed when Matheus Cunha struck a remarkable goal from outside the penalty area shortly after.

This marked just our third loss across all competitions in 35 games this season, making it a particularly hard pill for Bukayo Saka to swallow.

Reflecting on the match, Saka remarked, "I feel like we didn’t display our best performance throughout the entire game, and that’s certainly disappointing. This was such a significant match with a lot at stake. The Emirates has been a fortress for us this season.

"It’s definitely a painful loss, but we need to rally together as a team. We’ll regroup and aim to get back on track next week.

"In football, scoring and conceding are part of the game; what really matters is how you respond to those moments. Naturally, we wished we could have made it 2-0, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen. Overall, we’re just not satisfied with how we played."

However, there's no time for the team to wallow in disappointment, as Champions League action returns on Wednesday, followed by another away challenge in the Premier League next weekend against Leeds United. According to Saka, how we react will be crucial moving forward.

"Absolutely. The journey isn’t always going to be straightforward; it will have its highs and lows. It’s our responsibility to showcase our character in the upcoming match.

"That’s where our focus lies now; we can’t change what happened. Instead, we look ahead to next week with optimism."
