7 Faith Lessons to Change Your Life! Part 1
Lesson 1: Know That is God Writing Your Story
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us,and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2looking unto Jesus, the [a]author and [b]finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (((Hebrews 12:1-2 NKJV)
Iām going to share my testimony on an upcoming podcast. Itās been on my heart for years, but honestly, I just havenāt had the courageāso fair warning, I might cry. But thatās okay.
People often assume a lot about me. They think I grew up with money or had an easy life. Let me tell youāthey have no idea. When youāve gone through really hard things, and it doesnāt look like it at allāthatās JESUS!
Hereās what I want you to take away:
You may have grown up poor like I did. You may have faced a broken or unhealthy home life as a teenager. Maybe youāve felt ugly, fat, rejected, or hopeless. But do you know who was always there? Who was watching over you, leading you out of that pain, and turning it into dreams like books, podcasts, blogs, or testimonies that would help others find their way out too? God.
Iāve known God since I was very young, and I always believed He had plans for me. But when I looked at my life, I couldnāt see how any of it was possible. Thatās why God must be first in all things.
- If your pain comes first...
- If your excuses come first...
- If youāre so stuck in your story that you canāt see the goodness of God...
Youāll miss it.
Maybe today is the day to look up from your past and draw a line in the sand. Say, āThat is who I was, but Iām moving forward with God today. He is going to do a NEW THING!ā
Isaiah 43:18 reminds us: āForget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!ā
Picture yourself turning the pages of your past and opening a fresh, blank page. Give yourself the chance to believe with hopeful expectations. Have confidence in God that allows you to āfail your way to success,ā knowing He is with you every step of the way.
Hereās the truthāWherever God is not first, youāll find frustration, pain, confusion, and struggle.
So take it to Him first:
- Lord, give me wisdom to write this book, start this business, get fit, get out of debt, raise my kids right.
- Lord, help me walk in the Holy Spirit gift of patienceāwith myself and with others.
- Lord, have mercy on me and heal me.
- Lord, show me what You have planned for meāIām trusting You.
If you donāt cry out to God and prayerfully put Him first in everything, the areas you leave Him out of will become the very places you struggle most. Let today be the day you invite Him in, trusting Him to rewrite your story for His glory.
Lesson 2: God Alone Defines You!
Other Peopleās Opinions Are Not Your Truth
In todayās culture, you often hear people talking about ātheir truth.ā Itās become a common phrase: āThis is my truth.āBut as Christians, we donāt measure ourselves by someone elseās truthāor even care what it is, to be honest. Our truth comes from God alone. Amen?
Take a moment to ask yourself:
- Is the way I see myself influenced by anything other than who God says I am?
- Who or what is defining how I think about myself, my worth, and whether I go after my God-given dreams?
The answer should always be Jesus. Only He has the authority to define you.
In my book, Fit Godās Way, I share a powerful exercise inspired by the movie Overcomer. In the film, a teacher tells a young girl to read the first two chapters of Ephesians and write down everything God says about her. If youāve never done this before, I highly encourage you to try it.
Hereās just a glimpse of what youāll find:
- He chose you before the foundation of the world.
- He predestined you to adoption.
- He accepted you in the Beloved.
- In Him, you have redemption through His blood and the forgiveness of sins.
- He sealed you with the Holy Spirit of promise.
- He made you alive when you were dead in sin.
- You are His masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which He prepared beforehand for you to walk in.
And thatās just the beginning! Through Jesus, we have access to the Father, the hope of His calling, the riches of His glory, and the exceeding greatness of His power.
Take time to meditate on these truths. Let them define how you see yourself, how you think, and how you step forward into the dreams God placed on your heart.
You are who God says you are. No one else gets to define youānot the world, not others, and not even yourself.
Hereās a personal story Iāve never sharedā¦
I remember sitting at a baseball game with a girl who is no longer my friend. She pointed to a man and said, āLook at his nose. Heās so ugly.ā She went on and on about how hideous she thought he was.
I responded, āThereās a woman out there who will think that man is the most handsome person sheās ever seen.ā Then, I ended the conversation with, āYour opinion is not Godās truth.ā
Needless to say, weāre not friends anymore.
Hereās the thing: only Godās truth about you matters. No one elseās opinion can override that.
God doesnāt make mistakes. If people donāt like your hair, your body, your talent, or the way you do thingsāif thatās how God made you, thatās their problem, not yours.
True freedom comes when you let God define you, not people or their expectations.
Promise me this: Read Ephesians 1 and 2. Circle and write down everything God says about who you are and what you have in Jesus. That is your truth!
I canāt wait to share the next five lessons with youāstay tuned!
Remember, You are Strong. Confident. His.
