There are a lot of reasons to invest in the best moisturizer with SPF: Maybe you're short on time in the A.M., or you just don't want to pile on products in the middle of a heat wave. (As an oily-skin girlie, I *get* it.) This hybrid formula can offer the best of both worlds, delivering both hydration and sun protection in a single, super-easy step.
Still, your one-and-done does come with a few caveats. "Your SPF should still be 30 or higher, and would need to be reapplied at least every two hours since its sun protective effects will wear off just like regular sunscreen," says Gloria Lin, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist at Schweiger Dermatology in New York, NY, who notes that her patients often use moisturizer with SPF in the morning, and then follow up with regular sunscreen to reapply if they plan to be outdoors during the day.
Heads up: Even if you're prone to acne, you still need moisturizer! In that case, look for a non-comedogenic formula, as board-certified dermatologist Nicole Lee, MD, previously shared with Cosmo. She recommends opting for water-based formulas, which tend to be more lightweight, and steering clear of those with cocoa butter, red dye, fragrances, essential oils, and coconut oils—since these ingredients are known for clogging pores.
There are more moisturizers with SPF that ever, which means that while it's easier to find something that suits your preferences, you first have to do the legwork of actually, you know, choosing it. That's where I come in; I talked to dermatologists and staffers for their faves. Take a look at our sneak peeks:

Pros
Works for sensitive skin
Easy to pack
Cons
Smells like sunscreen
Dr. Lin loves this moisturizer for all her patients, even those with sensitive skin. "It contains ceramides and their signature thermal spring water to provide hydration," she says. On top of that, it also contains niacinamide to brighten and soothe skin—and since it acts as an antioxidant, it makes this your one-and-done for those mornings when you just can't.
- Key Ingredients: Ceramides, niacinamide, glycerin
- Type: Chemical
- SPF Level: 30
Glowing Customer Review: "I never leave reviews about products, but I felt compelled to write this today. I have been using this moisturizer for several months now, and I don't think I can ever live without it. I recently started medication for my acne-prone skin, and it was so difficult for me to find a moisturizer gentle enough for my now dry, flaky skin. Every moisturizer I tried would work for 10 minutes and then soak in and leave my skin irritated and drier than before. But this provides just the right amount of moisture, leaving my skin looking healthy and glowy all day long, which is a miracle for my skin right now! It also lasts a really long time--the tube may look small but a little bit goes a long way!"
Pros
Won't clog pores or pill
Comes in an Ultra-Light version
Cons
Might feel a little heavy for oily skin
For those of us prone to breakouts (hi!), Dr. Lin recommends this formula, which, she says, "feels more lightweight while still providing good hydration for the skin." It's non-comedogenic but packs a lineup of nourishing ingredients like ceramides and hyaluronic acid—as well as niacinamide, which is able to manage oil production. (However, if you can't stand the feel of cream on skin or want something even lighter for summer, she recommends the Ultra-Light version.)
- Key Ingredients: Ceramides, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide
- Type: Mineral
- SPF Level: 30
Glowing Customer Review: "This is my favorite moisturizer/spf combo. I have tried other duos, moisturizer + spf separately of all different price points and ALWAYS end up back to this one. It’s affordable to top it off. It takes like 2 minutes to absorb, leaves no white cast. My skin is prone to clogging, this doesn’t do that. No piling when on top of other products. Doesn’t smell super weird. No oily or greasy feeling. It’s everything you look for! Love the extra ingredients that are great for nourishing your skin as well."

Supergoop Triple Prep Weightless Multitasking Moisturizer SPF 40

Might not be moisturizing enough for dry types
Beauty editor Beth Gillette always has a jar of this moisturizer on hand, sharing that it works ~magic~ for her oily skin. "It lightly hydrates and gives my skin a plump, moisturized look without the accompanying greasiness that usually comes with it," she says. "Plus, it works double duty with SPF 40 so that I don't have to layer on a sunscreen with it."
- Key Ingredients: Ectoin, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide
- Type: Chemical
- SPF Level: 40
Glowing Customer Review: "I love this moisturizer! it's super lightweight and there's no strong spf smell. it doesn't feel like i'm wearing anything and it doesn't break me out at all (like most sunscreens normally do)"

Best Moisturizer with SPF for Dry Skin
Dermalogica Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF 50
Pros
Has a high SPF level
Feels really nourishing
Cons
Could cause breakouts for acne-prone types
Some reviewers don't love the scent
This bb is a new find for Cosmo editor Olivia Truffaut-Wong. "It's so, so, so good because it actually moisturizes my skin," she says. "A lot of moisturizers with SPF tend to feel just like sunscreen to me, which isn't great for my dry/combo skin. This one actually feels like it's giving me hydration and sun protection!"
- Key Ingredients: Sunflower seed oil, squalane, vitamin E
- Type: Chemical
- SPF Level: 50
Glowing Customer Review: "I got this in the sephora sun safety kit. I really like it! As someone with dry skin, I instantly felt my skin get moisture when I put this on. I really like it & I plan on getting the full size when I run out! It didn’t have a white cast & I feel glowy!!"

Best Moisturizer with SPF for Mature Skin
Eighth Day The Rejuvenating Moisturizing Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 30
Pros
Creates a smooth canvas for makeup
Blends like a dream
Cons
Expensive!!
Let me count the ways I love this formula, which dries down to nothing and *actually* goes on clear (despite using mineral sunscreen filters, which almost always leave a white cast on my tan skin tone). Since I'm now dealing with wrinkles on top of breakouts—the trade-off for remaining on this planet for this long—I love that the formula contains the brand's Peptide-rich Plasma, a proprietary blend of peptides, amino acids, and growth factors that help renew skin. It's pricey, but pretty much perfect.
- Key Ingredients: Peptides, allantoin, hyaluronic acid
- Type: Mineral
- SPF Level: 30
Glowing Customer Review: "I find the texture light on the skin. Absorbs quickly. The color does not interfere with skin tone. SPF is the bonus. Great protection. I do like it."
Pros
Absorbs quickly
Zero white cast
Cons
Contains fragrance, which might be irritating
It looks, feels, and smells like a moisturizer, but it's the best SPF you'll ever find if you're in the market for hydration. Like the OG Aqua Bomb, it feels refreshing and dries down in a matter of seconds—so you can pile on makeup afterwards without pilling. It's packed with herbal extracts to soothe and protect, as well as oat kernel oil and panthenol to support the skin barrier.
- Key Ingredients: Woodbine, marigold, noni extract
- Type: Chemical
- SPF Level: 45
Glowing Customer Review: "This is my new favorite daily sunscreen, and I’ve already repurchased! It’s moisturizing enough that I usually don’t need moisturizer underneath. It feels soft and pleasant during application and once you’ve applied, and doesn’t have a strong sunscreen smell. It’s easy to apply enough to get the full SPF 50 protection, and the “washable” formula makes it so easy to reapply (no gross feeling like can happen when trying to reapply a waterproof sunscreen that has already “set” on the skin). I love this one for daily use, it makes applying sunscreen daily easy and enjoyable! I hope Sephora stocks this one forever!!"

Pros
Has a radiant finish
Cons
Not nourishing enough for dry skin types
If you're prone to hyperpigmentation, either from the sun or acne, then get thee over to this sunscreen, which is ideal "for those looking to also improve any discoloration or uneven skin tone at the same time," says Dr. Lin, who points to the combo of tranexamic and niacinamide. They work via two different mechanisms to inhibit excess pigment production—delivering brighter, more even skin.
- Key Ingredients: Niacinamide, tranexamic acid, glycerin
- Type: Chemical
- SPF Level: 30
Glowing Customer Review: "I have been using this product for years! I love that it is not think or sticky and it feels amazing in your face. Adds a bit of dewy glow along with SPF."
Pros
Feels and smells like nothing
Hasn't broken me out yet
Cons
Leaves my skin a little shiny
You caught me! This isn't technically a moisturizer—but as someone with super-oily skin who's prone to breakouts, I really think it's worth considering this moisturizing sunscreen. It has shea butter and squalane to give my skin just enough moisture, and the texture feels like water—it sinks in that quickly. I love that it's water-resistant, too, so it can hold up during my summer runs and plain, old heatwaves alike.
- Key Ingredients: Squalane
- Type: Chemical
- SPF Level: 40
Glowing Customer Review: "It's true: I get out of bed for Bask. This product makes using my other products so much more enjoyable. How could it be? Is it because it feels velvety smooth and sinks into my great skin? Is it made of diamonds? Not only does it make for a perfect primer for make up and protects from the sun's stronger than ever rays, it also acts as a perfect anti aging for my hands!! Instant glow up in the cutest blue bottle. I'm cryin over the perfection!! Two more important notes: it has a very neutral smell and is for ALL genders."

Best Fragrance-Free Moisturizer with SPF
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hyaluronic Acid Facial Moisturizer Fragrance-Free
Pros
High SPF level
Doesn't contain fragrance
Cons
Smells like sunscreen
Can leave skin looking a little oily
Dr. Lin is a fan of this hyaluronic acid-packed formula, since it's "hydrating but still lightweight without leaving behind a greasy or sticky feeling," she says, noting that it does smell like sunscreen (the trade-off of a fragrance-free formula, alas!). It also contains antioxidants for a little extra defense against free radicals caused by UV rays—just saying.
- Key Ingredients: Hyaluronic acid, vitamin E, glycerin
- Type: Chemical
- SPF Level: 50
Glowing Customer Review: "I layer this on top of my serum and/or moisturizer depending on the day. I have combo skin, that is more on the dry side. If I don't let this completely soak in before I start running errands and sweating I will look pretty oily. This is also the only spf moisturizer I have found that doesn't pill with any of my other moisturizers or serums. Great moisturizing, and amazing spf protection. My skin looks 5 years older if I forget to wear this for a couple days."

Best Moisturizer with SPF for Dark Skin Tones
Black Girl Sunscreen Moisturizing Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30
Pros
No fragrance
Very nourishing for dry skin
Cons
Can feel a little greasy
You don't need me to tell you that many sunscreens can leave a white cast on dark skin—but that's nbd here. Dr. Lin points to it as a great option for her patients with medium to deep skin tones. Plus, she says, "it contains jojoba, avocado, and sunflower oil for hydration."
- Key Ingredients: Avocado oil, sunflower seed oil, aloe vera
- Type: Chemical
- SPF Level: 35
Glowing Customer Review: "I have medium deep to deep skin tone (depending on the season) and I was looking for something more then just a regular sun screen. Ive been using this for some years and really like it. Though the product come out white, once worked into the skin its clear, blends well, and doesnt leave a white cast. I personally think it leaves a little glow to the skin. Initially putting it on i feel like i can feel it on my face, but after a few minutes I dont. I also have oily skin and this doesnt make my skin feel and look more oily. A little goes a long way. I would say it works well under makeup, but not to apply primer and makeup until its dried and settled into the skin a little first."

Pros
Sinks in instantly
No scent
Cons
Might not be hydrating enough for dry skin
Cosmo commerce editor Nashia Baker swears by this stuff, since she's allergic (basically) to greasy creams. "This one strikes the perfect balance between its light weight and SPF," she says, crediting the hyaluronic acid—a key ingredient—with leaving "skin feeling super smooth and hydrated."
- Key Ingredients: Hyaluronic acid, vitamin E
- Type: Chemical
- SPF Level: 30
Glowing Customer Review: "I have been using this product for over a month now. I love that there is no real scent to this product. It goes on feeling a little heavier than most daily moisturizers I have tried in the past but feels light weight after application and is easy to apply makeup over. I have comfort in knowing that there is SPF in there and my skin has never felt better!"

Best Tinted Moisturizer with SPF
Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Sheer Tint Moisturizer SPF 45
Pros
Sheer coverage
Doesn't have a white cast
Cons
Might not work for super-pale people
Wanna make your skincare routine work even harder? Try a *tinted* moisturizer with SPF, which is exactly what sold assistant shopping editor Jasmine Hyman on this formula, who wears it instead of foundation. "I love any product that boasts several benefits at once," she says. "Its hydrating formula makes my skin feel soooo soft, all while protecting from harmful rays. It’s also slightly tinted, so it smooths over any imperfections."
- Key Ingredients: Argan oil, vitamin E, hyaluronic acid
- Type: Chemical
- SPF Level: 45
Glowing Customer Review: "I have been waiting for a product like this! Hydrating, light as a feather, and adds hint of sheer color to even out my skin tone. Many of my friends tried as well, all with different skin tones, and it looked great on everyone. We are all boys who sampled it, and it's great for the boy who doesn't want to go through the fuss of picking out a shade for a tinted moisturizer! Fool proof. New summer must have!"

Pros
Actively supports the skin barrier
Fragrance-free
Cons
Some sensitive skin peeps might not want chemical filters
Feels a little watery
Truffaut-Wong counts on this for a more budget-friendly option—and it doesn't bug her sensitive skin, either. "I love that is has ceramides in it and is fragrance-free, so it doesn't irritate my skin," she says. However, it's a little liquid-y, which you might either love or hate.
- Key Ingredients: Ceramides, green tea, probiotics
- Type: Chemical
- SPF Level: 30
Glowing Customer Review: "I needed a new moisturizer with SPF and decided to try this. I love that it's fragrance free. I also love the consistency; it's creamy, light and my skin loves it. I also like that it doesn't give the white cast that some sunscreens do."
Pros
Not greasy whatsoever
Leaves skin feeling super-soft
Cons
Squeeze applicator is a little finicky
Managing editor JoAnn Liguri swears by Olay's lineup of SPF, and this is no exception. Recently formulated with SPF 40 (versus the OG SPF 15, which is less than the minimum SPF 30 recommended by the American Academy of Dermatology), it also moisturizes skin with ceramides, vitamin E, and niacinamide—proof that you don't have to invest an arm and a leg to get a really good moisturizer with SPF.
- Key Ingredients: Ceramides, vitamin E, niacinamide
- Type: Chemical
- SPF Level: 40
Glowing Customer Review: "I love the smooth feeling of this face lotion. It not only feels great on my skin but also provides excellent protection. Highly recommend!"

Your body deserves TLC, too—and it gets it from this body oil, which brings on a ton of moisture with a blend of argan oil, marula oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, vitamin E, and hyaluronic acid (whew). The oil leaves skin with a shimmery sheen courtesy of pearlescent and gold mica, making it perf for your next date night—or whenever you want to feel a lil extra.
- Key Ingredients: Jojoba oil, mica, hyaluronic acid
- Type: Chemical
- SPF Level: 30
Glowing Customer Review: "Love this sunscreen! A dupe for Tom Ford! Light shimmer and love the scent."
Is it good to have SPF in moisturizer?
Definitely. "Moisturizer with SPF can be an excellent option since it can minimize the amount of steps in the morning skincare routine," says Dr. Lin. Plus, if a hybrid formula is what gets you to use SPF all day, every day, then it's worth combining the two.
After all, consistency is the most important part of sun protection–SPF doesn't do much if you only wear it half the time— so it's important "to find one that works well and that you'll consistently continue to use," she says.

How do you apply moisturizer with SPF?
Sure, you could slather it on—but it pays to be a little more careful, because "not putting enough of it on can lead to sunburns," says Dr. Lin. That's especially the case when you're working with moisturizer, since you might not be used to applying a lot of it.
To that end, "any exposed skin should be covered with the moisturizer with SPF—including face, neck, ears, and hands," she says. Even walking to the office or getting into your car for lunch still calls for sun protection, so don't just save it for beach days.
How to choose the best moisturizer with SPF for you:
Check for broad-spectrum protection
You don't want just any sunscreen. Scope out the label to "make sure that it provides broad-spectrum coverage, so it protects against both UVA and UVB," says Dr. Lin. UVA rays are responsible for signs of aging (like wrinkles and dark spots) and some types of skin cancer, whereas UVB rays can lead to sunburns and other forms of skin cancer, so you def want to be protected against both.
Look for ingredients you love.
Already a fan of hyaluronic acid? Then consider looking for that in your moisturizer with SPF, too. "Ingredients like hyaluronic acid and ceramides can provide additional hydration for the skin," says Dr. Lin. On the other hand, if you're worried about signs of aging (like moi) look for antioxidants like vitamin C and E, "which can provide additional protection against free radicals and photo-aging," she says. Sun damage? Never heard of her.
